Boston Scare – Oops!

I hate to be insensitive to people’s fears of terrorism, but have to say I love this marketing ploy scare that happened in Boston. I mean, it’s really pretty funny, and definitely a huge success as a marketing campaign. Now everyone knows about “Aqua Teen Hunger Force.” And I love the artists and how they’re having fun with the whole thing. Gotta love a good troublemaker.

I don’t know if I’m reading the news stories correctly but it sounds like these cartoon “devices” had been up for something like three weeks before they caught any attention from the authorities. But what I really want to know is, where can I get one of those things? I want to hang one on my wall, right off the foyer would look nice.

  1. Hi Sandra. Yes it is true they were up for three weeks in about 10 other states as well, and yes LA & NYC were targets. I thought you could tell me why out of all those states Boston had to be the one for some knuckle head to call 911 before checking it out further trust me it’s bad enough with all law enforcement pumped up and not thinking. Terrorists would go for a very large gathering or mass transit to get max casualties. I thinks it’s funny too! but people need to use their heads. Ok I think I bored you enough Lol!! I think you can go to adultswim.com and get one of those things, if not now probably after the movie premires. Take Care. Babs

  2. As a Bay Stater, I have to admire the prank. I have a feeling greed got in the way, since goverment emergency workers and administrators get overtime, and time off after go through the drill.

  3. Hey Spandexmann. I think Boston should foot the bill you cannot tell me that someone in all that time could not figure out that they were not bombs and yet 9 other states did not have a problem after 3 weeks!! I am a fan of Aquateen and watch as much as I can, so I score it this way Republicans 1 for fear tactics and Dems 0 for Turner having to payout. Yes all in Boston who are whining are Republicans(Fact).

  4. They look a lot like that old “Lite Brite” toy. I can’t believe anyone would be scared of that thing.

  5. I was part of the crew that had to shut down rte93 in the morning when that first one was found and the rumors I was hearing that it was an explosive devise taped to a bridge abutment at the t-station and if it was real it could have done some real damage. It took about an hour we were out there b4 they finally decided to reopen the highway. I know it was just a hoax but that first hour I was a little nervous. But it all turned out fine in the long run.

  6. what if these things were real and something did happen?
everybody would be saying why didn’t the “authorities” do something. would you rather an over-reaction or a tragedy?
    welcome to post-9/11 america!

  7. To be honest yes I would, But someone should have stepped up and realized that terrorists are out for big targets like in LA, NY and Chicago etc where you have very large masses of people. I guess for me it is doing more to educate the public as I am a FF and a Peace Officer an I am trained to investigate first, then call out the troops. I do understand your points, But are we going to have it that every time someone sees a bag or a cooler unattened we are going to have to go all out?

  8. apparently we are going to have to deal with false alarms and over-reactions. we are a frightened nation. the bush administration has flashed the orange and red alert lights too many times and sensitized us, rightly or wrongly, to what they feel is the ever-present danger of terrorist attacks.
