{"id":419,"date":"2008-05-22T14:43:46","date_gmt":"2008-05-22T22:43:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tranniesintrouble.com\/wordpress\/?p=419"},"modified":"2008-06-02T16:31:42","modified_gmt":"2008-06-03T00:31:42","slug":"depression-out-of-the-shadows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tranniesintrouble.com\/wordpress\/archives\/419","title":{"rendered":"Depression: Out of the Shadows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last night on PBS there was an interesting <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/lifestyle\/food\/articles\/2008\/05\/21\/shedding_light_on_disease_called_depression\/\">documentary on depression<\/a> that examined some of the underlying brain chemistry that&#8217;s often involved, and talked to many different people suffering with some form of the disorder, from mild to severe.  A lot of it was fairly grim but overall I found it quite hopeful.  I&#8217;ve been using alternative methods &#8211; St. John&#8217;s Wort, social support, and lots of exercise &#8211; the last six months or so for my own occasional low moods, but to be honest about twice a week I still think about going back on prozac.  I do fine without it but 2008 so far has definitely been a tougher year than last and some of it is no doubt because I&#8217;m not on the pills.  It would be so nice to do it without the meds, but I still may go back on them.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in the subject PBS actually has <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/takeonestep\/depression\/video-ch_01.html\">the entire show online here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Also a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pbs.org\/wgbh\/takeonestep\/depression\/video-preview.html\">shorter preview here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>They also talked to Andrew Solomon, author of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noondaydemon.com\/\">The Noonday Demon<\/a>, which is one of the best books on the subject that I&#8217;ve read.
