It turned out to be a fun, if sometimes lonely, three-day drive back to L.A. I usually enjoy being on long road trips like that and having that feeling of being “between” places, as though life is on hold for a time. My only bad judgment was in waiting to get gas in Needles, CA, right before crossing the Mojave desert. The gas prices were Yikes! Should have fueled up in Arizona, but so it goes. The rest of the trip was fine and I got in early to my friend’s place in L.A. yesterday. It’ll just be a few days here getting unpacked and settled in and then back to work – and back to some good parties! I’m sure I’ll be going to Threshold quite a bit, probably the Femme Fatale party this Friday, and definitely the next Club Fantasy party next week. It’s good to be back in SoCal!
Gas is over a dollar more out your way than in MA wow!
Hi PF, it was the highest by far right across the state line in Needles but, yeah, I’m sure it’s much higher than in MA. One of the privileges of living here!
Wow, here I am complaining about gas prices and an online UK friend just wrote to say they’re paying $9.00 dollars a gallon – Whoa!!
Hi Sandra
Congratulations on your move back to LA. Sounds like you are off to a great start.
I am thinking of moving to LA from Denver. I like the warmer climate and I think LA is incredibly interesting as a city.
Any general guidance based on your experience — specifically in choosing a neighborhood. I would prefer one where I did not need to drive everywhere for shopping, restaurants, etc.
Thanks and best regards,
Rob
Hi Rob,
Come on out – L.A.’s great! (And yes, kind of stressful at times too and pricey but not as bad as NY or San Fran). Yeah, you’ll find places to go in just about any neighborhood so you don’t have to brave the freeways all the time. I’m in the Valley which is a little more suburban than what people usually refer to as L.A. (though it’s still in the city proper). I used to live in Hollywood and much of it’s an armpit and terribly congested, so I’d avoid that. Many other nearby suburbs are nice – Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena – and not really that far from the city. It’s a unique and wonderful and awful place all at the same time, but if you’re leaning to come out here I’d definitely go for it! Hope that helps a little…
