It’s amazing to see marriage licenses being issued to same sex couples in a state as conservative as Utah of all places, one day after the decision in New Mexico from that state’s Supreme Court. Nine new states alone in 2013 in the US where same sex marriage is now legal, 18 total plus DC; things continue to change…
So not surprisingly, future gay marriages in Utah are on hold while the litigation continues but it is amazing that the Federal government, at least with the Obama administration, is agreeing to recognize the 1300 marriages that did occur before the stay was issued by the Supreme Court. However, the fact that the Federal government’s policy now is to recognize gay marriages issued by any state is a huge shift in favor…More states to come inevitably in the future…
